Khojpura is a Traditional Cultural Village in Nalanda Bihar (India). In Ancient India, Nalanda was known for hosting the world's largest residential university. Nalanda was an acclaimed Mahavihara, a large Buddhist monastery in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern-day Bihar) in India. We will introduce you to more amazing places near our knitting and crochet center.
Population Of Village (Khojpura)
The population of women in Khojpura is about 400, and where 99% of them are dependent on their male family members. The lack of employment opportunities in the village has forced many male members of the families to move to metro cities in search of livelihood. Most of them end up working as laborers in factories, coolies, rickshaw pullers, and sweepers earning a meager wage of 4 dollars a day. Our team survey found that most of the male members don't have shelter in a metro city and end up living either in government-provided shelters or Railway stations. Meanwhile, women folks left behind in the village struggle on a day-to-day basis to fulfill their basic needs of running a family. Sometimes women like Gaytri Devi suffer more because their husbands settled in a metro city mostly with a new family.
My perception of the village is very strong. I met around 50 women who are highly skilled in Hand knitting and crochet. They learned this skill from their ancestors, and are trying to protect this skill by passing it on to the newer generations.
Our Centre
In the year 2021, we started our Messu Craft journey when we decided to buy a small house in Khojpura where highly skilled women come together to create magic daily. We are finally shifting to our new center with a lot of hopes, it’s an old restored house with 7 Rooms, with a huge garden in the front, two hand pumps inside the house to provide fresh clean water to our women workers, a large pond behind the house and, a beautiful temple for the women to visit in the evening. These dreams are coming true with the help of our wonderful customers who continue to believe in our skills and crafts and our helping in renewing this lost art.
In the past 1 year, women from our knitting center produced a large number of hand-knitted cardigans, jumpers, hats, gloves, and scarves for Meesu Crafts and other Overseas brands. They mostly work full-time and part-time for Meesu crafts which allows them to look after their children as well.

Most kids don’t have footwear, but it’s a happy moment to see large numbers of books in their hands. The organization today encompasses a free nursery and primary school for all 300 children and offers welfare and education for up to 20 orphan/semi-orphan children. we like to invite more business and NGO across the world to come and join Meesu crafts and help more number of women and their kids.
